What is Information Systems? Why do we need it? and How do we make one?

When I first heard of Information System I did not have a clear understanding of what the term really meant. However something caught my attention the word “Information” I knew that in modern day economy “Information” was key, and thought that the “Systems” bit was something that caters for the Information.

Later when my course started to take shape it was clear to me that I was right, and understood that the subject, and the career path that I chose was the right one for me. Now when people ask me about my profession and I tell them Information Systems, they say “ahh that’s nice” with a confused look on their face, but they say again “I have heard of Information Technology, but don’t know what Information Systems is?

My response for this is simple, I just ask them if they have a travel/oyster card? a bank account? a store loyalty card? or know of a website that constantly changes? that is Information Systems, in this day in age on almost every aspect of our lives we are surrounded by Information Systems, with out Information Systems modern economy can not function.
